Terms of Service
Last updated: October 2026
Your use of regexmate.com (the "Site") is governed by the terms below. By continuing to use the Site you agree to them.
RegexMate is a regular expression tester: it tests and debugs regular expressions against sample text in real time, visualizing matches, capture groups and a plain-English explanation of the pattern. In practice, it runs your pattern against the sample with backtracking limits so a catastrophic pattern cannot lock the tab, and it highlights each match and capture group with its position so you can see exactly what the engine matched. This page should be read with that tool in mind, because the limits described apply to what it computes.
Everything the tool works with — the pattern and test text you enter — is handled locally. It is usually reached for things like reading someone else's regex line by line, and because nothing is transmitted a visitor can close the tab knowing no copy was made anywhere.
What the Site is
This Site is a free, browser-based regular expression tester. Its output is produced from your input using the stated method and is provided for information and education, not as advice. Developer tools produce output for use in your own work, and you remain responsible for reviewing and testing it.
No advice relationship
Nothing here forms a client, advisory or fiduciary relationship. The Site is a tool, and how you act on its output is a matter for you.
Intellectual property
Ownership of the Site's copy, layout and code lies with us or our licensors. Link freely; ask in writing before reproducing substantial parts.
How the Site is funded
The Site is supported by advertising and may link to external resources. We do not control third-party content and are not responsible for it. Advertising never influences a result.
Changes and downtime
The Site is provided "as is". We may change, suspend or remove any tool or page at any time and do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for consequential or indirect damages, nor for choices made on the strength of an output here.
Applicable law
The law that applies to these terms is that of the jurisdiction where the Site operator is established, ignoring conflict-of-law principles.
Using generated output
Output from a developer tool is a starting point, not a finished artefact. You are responsible for reviewing and testing anything generated here before relying on it in production.
Accuracy
Correctness is a goal, not a warranty: results may contain errors and the content may lag changes in the field. Where the underlying method has a margin of error, read the output accordingly.
Permitted and prohibited use
Personal and professional use is fine. What is not: disrupting the Site, scraping it hard enough to slow it for others, passing it off as your own, or using it unlawfully.
