RegexMate ("we", "us") operates regexmate.com. This page explains what data we handle and the choices you have. The short version: the pattern and test text you enter are processed on your own device and never leave your browser.

Which tool this covers

RegexMate is a regular expression tester: it tests and debugs regular expressions against sample text in real time, visualizing matches, capture groups and a plain-English explanation of the pattern. In practice, it runs your pattern against the sample with backtracking limits so a catastrophic pattern cannot lock the tab, and it highlights each match and capture group with its position so you can see exactly what the engine matched. This page should be read with that tool in mind, because the limits described apply to what it computes.

Everything the tool works with — the pattern and test text you enter — is handled locally. It is usually reached for things like reading someone else's regex line by line, and because nothing is transmitted a visitor can close the tab knowing no copy was made anywhere.

Data you give the tool

All processing happens on your device. Your input is handed to the page's own script, a result comes back, and that is the whole exchange. No request leaves your machine, and no copy of what you entered exists once the tab is closed.

How cookies and adverts work here

Advertising keeps the site free and is delivered by external networks, which may use cookies or similar technologies to show interest-based ads. Google, as one such partner, lets you opt out through its ad settings. Turning cookies off does not break anything here.

How we measure usage

Usage statistics, when collected, are anonymous and aggregated. They tell us which pages are useful; they do not identify you and they never include your input to the calculator.

What you paste is not uploaded

Anything you paste — a payload, a token, a configuration file — is processed in the browser. There is no upload step, which is rather the point: a private key stays exactly as private as it was before you pasted it.

Storage, security and how long things last

Because your inputs are never transmitted, there is no store of personal measurements to retain or protect. Standard security practice applies to the site itself, including HTTPS on every page.

Children and the site

These tools are built for a general adult audience rather than for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and would remove it on being told.

Your rights

Regional privacy law may grant you rights of access, correction, deletion or objection. Write to us to exercise them: because most of what the tool handles never reaches a server, there is rarely anything on file to act on.

Changes to this policy

If the way we handle data ever changes, this page will be revised and the date at the top adjusted accordingly. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.

Information collected as you browse

Delivering a page necessarily produces some technical detail at the edge: an IP address, a browser string, the path requested and when. RegexMate uses that only to serve and protect the site. It is not stitched together with whatever you enter into the tool.

Getting in touch about privacy

To ask about privacy, or to exercise a right, the contact page is the way to get through.
